Hey y’all,
I’m Autumn Hunter
an academic success blogger with a focus on the transition from high school to college
I won the scholarship of my dreams and received competitive offers from multiple schools, graduating from college debt-free and with a master’s degree. Now I have the opportunity to share how I did it with students like you.
Senior year of high school was miserable…
As a high-performing student, there was so much pressure to get into a good university. What was even more daunting was figuring out how to pay for it.
With a mom who was a retired P.E. teacher and a dad who drove a dump truck for a living, I knew my parents weren’t going to be able to front this bill - at least not all of it. I needed to find a way to pay for college that didn’t involve a lifetime of debt.
Eventually, at the end of a long year full of scholarship applications, interviews, and fear of the unknown,
I won a full-ride to my #1 school!
It was like a giant weight lifted off of my shoulders the day I found out I had won. Naturally, my parents were overjoyed as well, so we went out to dinner! (see picture)
Now, after four years of college and a bit of experience under my belt, I look back and recognize all of the crucial decisions I made during high school as well as the money-saving techniques I employed during college that allowed me to escape the “broke” college student stereotype.
The rewards of my experience are too valuable not to share. That’s what inspired this blog.
Where did you grow up?
Raleigh, North Carolina. Well, almost. I’m from a little town called Zebulon just east of the city. I guess you could say I’m a bit of a country girl:)
What did you study in college?
Statistics. Usually when I tell people, I either get the “Wow! You must be really smart” or the “Ewww are you ok?” response. Honestly it was really difficult, but its such an interesting degree. I’m finishing up my master’s degree in August 2022 and I’m hoping to work in biostatistics, business analytics, or human rights research. It really is a broad and growing field.
Who’s that guy on your home page?
Hehe my huuuuuussssband. His name is Brandon. We met in college through a college ministry, and got married in December of 2021. He has been a huge blessing in my life and my #1 supporter in writing this blog.
What are your favorite hobbies?
Oh gosh. Should I make a list?
Literally any type of art. I love to draw, paint (especially animals), and I’ve even dabbled in macrame and leatherwork
I LOVE to travel, and I’ve visited Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Dominican Republic, St. Lucia, and Costa Rica
I’m also in love with all sea food and I choose the east Asian cuisine whenever possible… is that a hobby?? ;)
Dancing is my favorite way to work out
I love volleyball
Random fact: I’m a certified ESL teacher
